1080p @ 144 hz on 1440p monitor and AMD card - can't get full screen scaling???

$

Hello guys,
so after hours and hours of skimming through Google and trying all kinds of stuff I've now finally registered here as a last resort, here's my setup:

Acer Predator XB271HU (connected via Displayport to a)
Radeon R9 280X
Win 10 Pro
Latest AMD driver 19.4.1 installed

So this Acer monitor has a 1440p native resolution and supports up to 165 hz (when activating it's 'OC' mode in the monitor's OSD), otherwise 144 hz.

Whenever I try to run a game with a 1080p resolution @ 144 hz, it will not scale up the image to a full screen no matter WHAT I try within the AMD Radeon driver or the monitor's OSD. It's like the scaling option is stuck to "Scaling Mode: Center"

Here are two images to show you what I mean:

CS:GO @ 1080p
[Image: ZTSbaUr.jpg]

Old Command & Conquer @ 1080p
[Image: Z1rrRfT.jpg]

My GPU scaling option within the Radeon drivers is currently set to 'off' however it doesn't matter if I set it to on and pick any of the scaling mode options. It won't scale it to fullscreen.
There's also an OSD option on my monitor: 'Wide Mode' can be set to either Full, Aspect or 1:1. Changing these options has actually never changed the image I'm seeing on my monitor and I've tried it while in-game, on desktop, using different resolutions / hz so I don't even know why the option is there when it's not doing anything.

But now comes the really weird thing:
I'm running 1440p at 144 hz as my native / desktop resolution.
As soon as I decrease it down to 60 hz within Windows display options, the whole GPU scaling will work perfectly fine and I'm able to play 1080p enlarged to full screen , but with 60 hz only. Whenever I increase that to anything above 60 (I have 85, 100, 120 and 144 hz available in the dropdown), it won't scale the image and I end up with the configuration you see on my screenshots.

I will also add that if I pick a 4:3 resolution of up to 1024x768, everything will work just fine as well (I'll have a 'full screen' with black bars left and right only, running at 144 hz, which is just the way it should be).

Does anyone know how to fix this?Huh I'd be very very grateful... thanks !

Reducing Input Latency on TVs feat. CRU

First post!

I haven't used a traditional monitor in 6 years and have somewhat perfected the art of reducing input latency on TVs. After using Toasty's Custom Resolution Utility in order to experiment with DSR, I realized that atleast a couple people on this forum might appreciate or benefit from my efforts. In the shortest terms possible, I used CRU to trick my computer into thinking that my native 4K display is a native 1080P display, so that I could use DSR to decrease input latency and actually display some unsupported resolutions.

This is my comprehensive WikiHow guide on the subject. Niche use cases for DSR and related display fuckery are in the last couple steps, and the 'Tips' section at the bottom. If you spot any incorrect information, or have anything I could add, please speak up!

Radeon 5700 DVI to HDMI 2k 1140p?

Hi all,
I have an old Radeon 5750 card in my desktop that I have hooked up to my new 4k/ UHD TV.
I have tried a DP to HDMI cable, and now a DVI to HDMI cable, both are supposed to support 1440p (2560 x 1440), however I cannot get it to work... hence ending up here.

The video I watched that lead me here showed a CRU ability in the CCC.exe - my CCC doesn't have the CRU
Any ideas on how to force this?

Higher refresh rate Dell SE2417HG

Greetings...Just got a good deal Dell SE2417HG (TN panel) recently. Like to push its refresh rate higher than 60hz (default native 1080p@60hz), tried the CRU as per instruction (great utility), I am able to go as higher as upto 66hz (with 1080p resolution) Big Grin with no frame drops, anything higher is no good.
ID : DELD08C
V : 56 - 76 hz
H : 30 - 83 khz
Max pixel clock : 170 Mhz
1920x1080@60 (148.50 Mhz + +)
-----------------------------
Is the Max pixel clock rules the whole thing regardless what V / H rate is, as long as the Max pixel clock is within the 170 Mhz limit, the setting will be okay ?

As I have dual boot with old XP which was built with a old Dell P1110 (CRT) monitor. When I flip over to XP first time with this new monitor, the XP has mistaken assumed it still with the P1110 which offers my many rooms for combination settings. I was able to push this monitor to 1920x1200@70hz, it did as my desktop area is bigger than 1080 and the text/whole xp window looks much BETTER...then next, when I try it again, change back/forward between 1080 and 1200, the XP window no long response to my command, I am not able to play with the 1920x1200@75 any more...Noted the P1110 profile with Max pixel clock as high as 280Mhz. Shy

Is there a way to just override the "Range Limits" a bit (risky) or is it locked by the product ID ?

Hello,
i have eizo foris fg2421 and i am using svp pro, i need matching fps my refresh rate. By the default it is 120.4hz. But i need to match it 119.880
In nvidia control panel, just by changing refresh rate, it doesn't match. I tried yet cru and all lcd modes, but it doesn't match exactly either. I don't know values for timmings, to set it up manually. I found 3 calculators, but there were missing values, or outdated. Can someone help me with timmings, to achieve this exact refresh rate.
Thank you.

EDIT: i downclocked it using lcd reduced mode and in cru is 119.880. But in my monitor's information in ocd is 119.7 So what is true, value showed on my monitor, or value in cru ?

Black Screen Fix?

Hello,
Today I have completely reset my laptop today because I was having issues unrelated to the CRU program. Anyways, before I reset my PC I have used the CRU program for about 3 months and I have set my refresh rate to 95.00 and my resolution to 1280x720 and it has worked for months. But, once I completely reset my PC and erased all of the files, I download the CRU program again and I am 100% using the EXACT same settings which are 1280x720 and 95.00 Hz. When I press the OK button and restart my computer, it comes up in the option to change your monitor hz, but when I go to the list and I click on the 95.00 hz, I press apply and my screen turns black for about 15-20 seconds ish and then it turns back to 60hz. Any fix to this? I find it strange that it works before me resetting my computer, but it does not work after a complete computer wipe with the EXACT same settings. Any fix? Thanks! btw, my laptop is an Acer Nitro 5. (Complete name here)

Looking for ideas regarding black screen

Hi guys new user here.
My system: Windows 10 pro 64bit, EVGA 1050 ti, Intel i5-4590, 8gb ram, 450Watt Rosewill PSU, Asus H81M-C motherboard, Dell SE2717H. This is a single display setup. Monitor supports HDMI 1.4 , tried different cables (2.0, 1.4 etc). Monitor has HDMI + VGA input.

Monitor gets display output from:
1) iGPU via VGA and also HDMI output with an active (Sewell hammerhead) adapter.
2) TV output when connected HDMI to HDMI to cable box.

Graphics card gets display output from:
1) HDMI to HDMI, DP to HDMI, and DVI-D to HDMI to my Spectre 32inch TV.
2) DVI to HDMI (Kabeldirect from Amazon) although resolution is off so I can't see some stuff on the rightside and bottom of screen. When Windows loads with Microsoft basic adapter resolution fits screen correctly although it's a fixed resolution so I can't bump it to 1080.

I've tried multiple drivers, DDU to uninstall drivers and reinstall, disabling Realtek audio during install, safemode driver install, setting PCI as primary, disabling Intel driver in Windows, among others. By the way tried connecting monitor to my brother's computer which is brand new and same issue, same with another laptop. So I suspect there is something going on with the EDID.

The main thing that stumps me is monitor works fine with a cablebox. HDMI to HDMI (multiple cables), DP to HDMI, give NO OUTPUT in BIOS and Windows. The only way I can see BIOS or Windows (Microsoft adapter) is with DVI to HDMI.

Trying to work with what I have so what I was thinking of trying is get to the black screen after install (DVI to HDMI) then connect through Remote assistance from another PC and see if I can configure control panel
Or does anyone know if it's possible to remove pins from DVI connector end to remove the audio? I've done VGA to HDMI(iGPU) and HDMI to VGA (Nvidia) so I know the signal of VIDEO only goes thru HDMI port. So it might be something relating to the audio coming in (monitor has no speakers).

Thanks for your time and sorry for the wall of text.

Data Blocks

Hi I would like to have more information on data blocks.

For example, what happens if I enable DCI-P3 and what are the Metadata MD0, MD1, etc.

Also:
- What is Quantization: Selectable RGB range and YCC range?
- What does the Transfer functions of the HDR section do?
- Is it safe to add those blocks and can I remove them later?

I upgraded my laptop screen to a better true 8 bit, wide gamut (100% sRGB, 90% Adobe RGB and 90% DCI-P3) and I want to take the most advantage of this screen's colors and bit depth.

Thank you

Overclocking to higher than 1440p60

I have a Korean monitor that I managed to overclock to 189Hz using Nvidia's control panel. The thing is, I'd rather use my AMD card as FreeSync works there (I guess Nvidia lied about supporting FreeSync). However, in CRU, it's not letting me go above 165Hz. AMD's control panel just flat out refuses anything about 165Hz.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I got a question. I have a benq 2546 240hz monitor but my gpu dont show the 1280x960 resolution.

Whats is better? Lcd standar, lcd native or lcd reduced for 240hz and good clock?

LCD standar: 240hz / 259.201 kHz / 373.25 mhz
LCD native: 240hz / 237.125 kHz / 341.46 mhz
LCD reduced 240hz / 234.005 hHz / 320.12 mhz

Thanks!

Hello. So today I downloaded CRU and I manage to OC my BENQ GL2460HM 1920x1080 (60Hz) to 82Hz (at 83 it was out of range). My questions is what can I lower more in order to get a little bit more Hz ? I used LCD reduced and set some settings to 0. My settings are : https://imgur.com/a/NSWMVXj

Help getting 5120x1440 on MacOS

$

I've got a Philips 499P9 Ultrawide that runs at 5120x1440 but no matter how I connect it to my 2015 Macbook Pro it'll only run at 3840x1080.

- Thunderport 2 to DP didn't work.
- HDMI didn't work.
- USB-C on a latest Macbook Pro didn't work.
- Apple Thunderport 2 to Thunderport 3 adapter didn't work.
- SwitchResX doesn't seem to allow me to add a custom resolution.

Currently I have to power this monitor by two outputs on my Macbook, which is fine but annoying as hell as Apple isn't the greatest at handling multiple monitors Sad

I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on this?

Strange Issue - first time user

Hi,

Sorry for typing this fast but im really scared. I run windows 10 on my macbook pro through bootcamp so I can play fortnite. I wanted to try stretched resolution so downloaded CRU and attempted to create a custom resolution. I followed a guide I found on youtube to the letter. The monitors normal resolution is 2880x1800, and I wanted to create a 1444x1080 resolution. After doing so and restarting, only half of my screen showed anything, the part of the screen that had picture was flickering and I had a patch of like static in the centre of the screen.

This terrified me, this laptop was bought for me as a gift and is the most expensive thing I have ever owned. So I saw the restart/reset application in the CRU file and used it, and restarted. Now the resolution is back to normal but there is still a flicker in the top half of the screen, and where the static was there is like a watermark behind the picture being displayed.

The scary thing about this is that in both windows and mac OS this flickering and water mark appears.

Any suggestions welcome, please help me return it to normal, i dont know what else to do.

Thanks

Cannot create 2560 x 1440 resolution

I have two laptops. For simplicity I'll call them Old and New. Old is connected to a Dell U2713HM monitor which as a maximum and default resolution of 2560 x 1440 via a DisplayPort cable. When I connect New to this monitor via HDMI the highest resolution listed is 1920 x 1080. I used CRU 1.4.1 to add a detailed resolution of 2560 x 1440 on New using exactly the same settings that CRU shows for the 2560 x 1440 resolution on Old. When I choose the newly added 2560 x 1440 resolution on New the monitor displays a message saying that the frequency is not supported in spite of the fact that the frequencies shown in CRU on New match the frequencies shown in CRU on Old. How can I add a 2560 x 1440 resolution that works?

If it helps, Old is a Lenovo W530 with a NVIDIA Quadro K1000 card.
New is a Dell Precision 7540 with a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 card.
Note that this is my first attempt to use CRU. Thanks for any help.
